Ayrshire is a beautiful part of Scotland to visit. There is so much to see and do and with this kind of variety there is definitely something for everyone!

Situated on the South West coast of Scotland, Ayrshire is home to many splendid attractions ranging from those of historical interest & natural beauty to more leisurely & sporting activities.

 

Golf - It goes without saying that Ayrshire has a long tradition in the sport. Boasting two famous world renowned championship courses at Turnberry & Royal Troon, with the latter being right on our doorstep and venue of the 2008 Senior Open Golf Championship. There are a huge number of courses all over Ayrshire including the highly rated Brunston Castle and Dundonald Links courses, again the latter is only a short journey from The Barrels. So, if its a game of Golf you are after, you will be spoiled for choice!

 

History & Culture - Ayrshire has a wealth of historical interests and the area has played a prominent role in many periods of history over the centuries with William Wallace (Braveheart), Robert The Bruce and Oliver Cromwell all having strong connections with Ayrshire. There are many historical buildings which provide an excellent visitor attraction including Burns Cottage and the splendid Culzean Castle. Combining local history with local culture you need look no further than Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns. If you want to go shopping Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine all offer all the big high street names. Going out? Then Ayr, Troon, Prestwick, Kilmarnock and Irvine all offer fine restaurants and night life.

 

Sport & Leisure - Obviously we have already mentioned Golf but Ayrshire offers many other sporting and leisure interests. If you feel like taking in a football match, the area is home to two of Scotlands senior professional football clubs, Ayr United FC and Kilmarnock FC. If you are feeling lucky then you can spend a day at Ayr Racecourse, Scotland's top horse racing venue and home of the Scottish Grand National and Ayr Gold Cup meetings. If it's fun and excitement you are after then there is Loudoun Castle Theme Park with plenty of rides to keep all ages happy.
